Overcoming obstacles to make one charter’s vision a reality for students in Southeast LA

One new school + 175 new K-3 students
CLIENT:
Our dream was to create a center for higher learning in Southeast Los Angeles – an area where students needed new opportunities to be self-aware, responsible, inquisitive, prepared, inspired, independent, and exceed expectations while having fun learning.
PROBLEM:
Our petition was approved after 150 days (by law, the process is not to exceed 90 days). This gave us a late start, and with the State on the verge of financial catastrophy, we were informed we wouldn’t receive funding for months after opening. WIthout money, we could not run the charter we fought so hard to get approved. Thank goodness for CSC.
SOLUTION:
Charter School Capital provided a 3-year, $2 million commitment to cover start-up, growth and anticipated deferrals.
